Elba's Fundraising Page for Alex

Elbagina Cordero

Elbagina Cordero

Welcome to my fundraising page for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Nationwide Run/Walk. Each of us, in our own way, has a connection to 9/11 and its aftermath, and that includes me. That’s why on April 25, I’ll be running and walking together with thousands of others from across the country, to support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.  Our goal is to collectively run and walk 20,000 miles as we remember all those killed on 9/11 and honor the courageous first responders who ran toward danger to save others.

I am running on behalf of the Cordero family as a friend, sister, daughter, and wife.

As you all know, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the tragedy we all witness in horror. The day we will never forget, the day we lost Mo and Will's brother, Teresa, and Moises's oldest son, Emma, Liah, and Mila's Uncle... Alejandro Cordero.

I remember the day clearly, it was a regular Tuesday morning in Dowling College and on my way with some friends to Oakdale when we heard the news. We rushed back and all of our friends were in the lounge watching in horror the attacks on our City. What I did not know then is that I would soon be part of a family mourning the loss of their beloved son and brother. I have been part of the Cordero family for 17 years and I can tell you that each year on 9/11 it does not get easier for them. I am an "outsider" trying to comfort a pain that I know nothing of but nevertheless, I am there each year, same goes for Angie- Will's wife. I never got to meet Alex personally but I have heard many stories from my brother who played baseball with him, my husband Mo and his Brother Will who idolized him, his parents who still mourn him, his friends from 64'. We ALL know Alex because of them, his life lives on and I am saddened because our Corderitas did not get the chance to know him but we will continue to celebrate his life, his legacy.

We each have lost someone dear to us and this upcoming anniversary reminded me that time is of the essence. Time is all we have to be around those who we care and love for. Time is borrowed and time is precious.

So why say this now? Aside from the fact that it is his 20th year, with Teresa's permission, I created this fundraising page for the 9/11 memorial in his honor. The family will participate in a 5-mile run/walk for Alex. This needs to be done, it is our honor as a family to participate for him, for his colleagues, and others who lost their lives that day.

I ask you, friends, to donate in honor of him, a minimum of $21- his number. Our Team's goal is to raise $2,121.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your time, friendships and donation.
I hope you’ll consider making a donation to help us reach our goal – it’s secure and easy to do, right here on this website. Every dollar donated directly supports the essential mission of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and ensures that a new generation, and those still to come, never forget.

Thanks for your support!
